The meaning of Nosy Be Is Big (Be) island (Nosy) as it is the largest among all the little islands surrounding it but it is also commonly known as "the scented island", the powerful fragrance of the cultivations of ylang ylang, frangipane, coffee, cacao, vanilla and other of North Madagascar's distinctive flora fills the air.

Nosy Be is a little island which extends 27 km in length and 20 km at its largest width. The eleven natural fresh water volcanic lakes surrounded by lush vegetation offer the population and the cultivations oh the island their water reserves. The island is surrounded by wonderful sandy beaches and its coastline is continuosly interrupted by bays and inlets with deserted beaches. Thanks to its geographic position and the favourable microclimate Nosy Be is one of the emerging destinations of international tourism indulging in marine and terrestrial activities alike.
